Benedict Cumberbatch is the hottest thing in Hollywood at the moment. It seems like the Oscar is guaranteed for him in his wonderful performance in The Imitation Game.
Benedict has always been an outstanding actor, and he has always chosen wonderful projects. His quality of performance seems to reflect his quality of choice. From the TV show Sherlock, which brought him the most notoriety, to some of my favorite films like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, August: Osage County, Atonement, 12 Years a Slave or Star Trek Into Darkness. He was even in the Hobbit Series. It is save to say that this actor does not let himself be typecast and for good reason, because he can carry all different characters. He reminds me so much of a younger Johnny Depp in his good years. One always could bet that whatever film Johnny would pick to be part of, would be not only good, but also be interesting and different, and he would nail it. This is so rare to find, and it is good to see that Benedict, after putting in his time, is now taking center lead. I look forward to what he will bring us next.
The New York Times just released a great article with much more detailed information on the Oscar contender. Read it here.
